Ingredients
  

  • 1 kg potato Maris Piper, peeled
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Butter

Instructions
 

  • Chop the potatoes into 2.5cm chunks.
  • Add the potatoes to a pan of salted water and bring to the boil. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Drain the potatoes and return to the pan. Add a knob of butter, a splash of milk, salt and pepper to taste.
  • Mash the potato until smooth and creamy with no lumps.

Notes

To liven it up a bit, add a teaspoon of coarse mustard, horseradish sauce or a sprinkle of chilli flakes to the cooked potatoes before mashing.
