Rest in Peace – Nanny

It is with great sadness that I must let you know that my darling wife Ellen, aka Nanny, passed away unexpectedly in February after a short illness.

She will be greatly missed by myself and all the family, especially the grandchildren, who are finding the suddenness of it all very difficult to deal with.

You will probably have noticed that there has been no activity on Grandads Cookbook since before last Christmas. With a holiday and then Ellen’s passing time has flown by and a lot has happened between then and now.

I have moved home to be closer to my eldest son and his family so I no longer live in central London, and now reside in a village just outside Tunbridge Wells in the county of Kent, the so-called garden of England.

I have found a new interest in trying to be as self-sufficient as possible. To this end, I now have an allotment and I have successfully grown a variety of vegetables despite a late start and some very not summer-like weather.

In addition to growing fruit and vegetables, I have a small flock of chickens, 11 in total, who give me and the family a constant supply of eggs.

So my life has taken an unexpected turn but I will continue to share my favourite recipes as I discover them on my gastronomic journey.

Rest in peace my love, you are gone but certainly not forgotten.
